Letter to his grandmother [manuscript]. 1928.

Handwritten letter from Opperman to his grandmother dated 9 June 1928. It was written shortly before he competed in the Tour de France and covers such topics as the coverage given the trip by the Australian press, dissatisfaction with the team's French manager and arrival of their Australian manager, Bruce Small, and sightseeing in Paris.

Opperman was Australian road cycling champion from 1924-1929. He won the French Award Bol d'Or in 1928. From 1940-1945 he was Flight Lieutenant in the RAAF and later Councillor for the Association for the Blind and Director of Allied Bruce Small Ltd. From 1946 to 1967 he was M.H.R. for Corio when he resigned.
